Solar electric power is a 100% renewable energy source. Solar power produces electricity
without any noise or pollution and requires very little maintenance.
This animation shows power and energy generated during the day by a typical solar
electric system. The area under the curve represents the total amount of energy
produced, while each point along the curve represents the instantaneous power that
the system is generating. The amount of power varies throughout the day based on
the position of the sun and time of day. For instance, during early morning and
late afternoon when the sun is low in the sky, less sunlight reaches the solar panels
and the system generates less power. At noon, when the sun is highest in the sky
and the maximum amount of sunlight reaches the solar panels, the system generates
the maximum amount of power.
